DERRY -- Police say the Derry man cut with a large knife during a fight yesterday was using the blade to threaten his roommate's son.
Bruno Martin, 37, of 1 Franklin St. Apt. 6 was arrested upon his release from Parkland Medical Center in Derry at about 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
Police say Martin, who was previously convicted of burglary, is facing three felony charges in connection with Wednesday's fight, including attempted first-degree assault, criminal threat with a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Derry police detectives believe the fight broke out in an apartment on the second floor of the building between Martin and his female roommate just before 3 p.m. yesterday, said Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas.
Thomas said the woman's 25-year-old son who does not live at the home later became involved.
The verbal argument escalated to physical violence, Thomas said, and police believe Martin threatened the son and tried to stab him with the 15-inch knife.
Martin himself sustained "serious" cuts from the blade to his arm and upper back and was transported to Parkland Medical Center.
During an investigation, Derry police executed a search warrant of the apartment and found a firearm believed to belong to Martin, a convicted felon, Thomas said.
Martin was arrested as he was released from the hospital and is being held at the Derry Police Department on $30,000 cash bail pending arraignment in Derry District Court tomorrow.
Thomas said the female roommate was also treated for difficulty breathing at the scene Wednesday, but was not hospitalized.
